According to Religion News Service, the Rev. Dr. Molly Marshall has assumed the presidency of the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. The appointment marks a new leadership chapter for the Minnesota-based graduate institution, which focuses on progressive Christian education and interfaith engagement.

The seminary board of trustees selected Marshall following a search process aimed at identifying a leader capable of expanding the school’s academic reach and financial sustainability. Marshall previously served as the president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas, where she oversaw significant institutional growth and the development of satellite campuses across the United States.

Her career in theological education spans several decades, during which she has focused on feminist theology and the integration of academic rigor with practical ministry. She holds a doctorate from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has authored numerous books regarding systematic theology. Her work has frequently addressed the intersection of contemporary culture and Christian doctrine, a perspective she intends to bring to her new administrative role in Minnesota.

In her first official statement as president, Marshall expressed her intent to prioritize the school's mission. "We will focus on forming leaders for a changing world," she stated.

The transition comes as United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities continues to adapt its curriculum to address shifting student demographics and the increasing demand for online degree programs. The board noted that Marshall was chosen specifically for her experience in navigating transitions within seminary settings and her history of fostering collaborative relationships with diverse denominations.

Prior to her work in Kansas, Marshall spent years in the classroom, teaching courses on the history of Christian thought and contemporary theology. Her academic background is expected to influence the seminary’s long-term strategy for faculty development and research initiatives. The institution has emphasized that her leadership will remain centered on the school’s historical commitment to social justice and inclusive theology.

The board of trustees plans to host an official inauguration ceremony for the new president on the seminary campus in early 2027. Ahead of that event, Marshall is scheduled to meet with local church leaders and community stakeholders to outline her administrative priorities for the upcoming academic year. The seminary will release a finalized schedule for these introductory sessions by the end of October.
